Tring Bowls Club is a mixed club for men and women of all ages, managed by volunteers. The club provides an attractive social environment through its active social section with various events being organised throughout the year and has members ranging from pre-teenagers to grandparents - bowls really is a sport the whole family can enjoy! With no entry fee and a modest annual subscription, few other sports can match bowls in providing so much playing time and social activity for so little outlay.
We were lucky to be invited along to one of their open days, where our presenter Mark Swanston tried bowls for the first time. Mark enjoyed his experience very much but was surprised to find that bowls is much harder than it looks! But with the help of Ladies' Captain Jill Wallace, Tring Bowls Club President David Wass and Men's Vice Captain Charlie Markwick (who is also one of the coaches), he did manage to bowl a few good shots.
Look out for members of the Bowls Club coming to talk about the sport on Tring Radio very soon!
