We caught up with Nigel 'Birdy' Bird who presents the Floorshakers Show on Tring Radio an amazing journey into the Northern Soul and Motown dancefloor classics that continue to Keep the Faith to this day. 

Nigel's Quick Questions:

What or who inspires you?
I can honestly say at 59 I don’t need inspiration, I’ve always found my own way in life.

What was the first record you ever bought?
The first record I owned was the album tighten up volume 2, but was given to me by my elder sister.
The first record I bought was The Show Must Go On by Leo Sayer.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would play the lead role as you?
Chevy Chase or Jim Carey.

What’s the quirkiest job you’ve ever had?​​​​​​?
Cleaning out the 12th century crypt, buried deep under Ashridge House Management College in 1981 on more than one occasion. Not much light down there and pretty spooky on your own!

Tell us a couple of amazing facts about you that others might not know?
I can play the Trumpet and Bugle.   

I was taught ballroom & Latin American dancing up to  a very high standard by Kevin Clifton’s Nan.
My dance partner & I won many competitions, and danced at Blackpool's famous Tower Ballroom.
I still have all my medals/ trophies & certificates.

What’s your favourite film?
The Deer Hunter

What’s your favourite song?
Tough question. If you had asked for 10 I could have answered.
But I want Going Underground by The Jam played at my funeral! Seriously!

If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?
To be able to talk to people I’ve lost.

Your favourite place or holiday destination?
I own a second home in Tenerife, but love Padstow & Lyme Regis.

Tell us your favourite food?
I’ll eat anything except liver.  But a traditional roast is a game changer!
